LOCKDOWN NEWS FROM THE CAMBRIAN CENTRE GYM TEAM

In these frustrating times, we are sad that the Gym has had to close again after a lovely time seeing you all again from the beginning of September. We would firstly like to thank all of you for your continued support while we have settled into the “new normal” way of things.

As you know, the Cambrian Gym Team are all very aware of the benefits of exercise to maintain both mental and physical health and we would like to help you to maintain all of the good habits formed over the last couple of months. We would also like to be able to provide some face to face contact to all of you so we can all feel a little less isolated.

We will be sending out exercise programmes for you to follow at home, using whatever you have lying around to help to motivate you to maintain your fitness levels as well as your sanity!

On top of these programmes, we will also be providing Zoom sessions with different members of the Gym Team. These sessions are designed for you to ask us any questions you have about exercising at home, to go through the recent programmes sent to you or to just have a general chat. It would be great to see as many of you as possible.

Timetable of weekly zoom exercise sessions:

  • Mondays 2.45pm     Tai Chi with Paul                      9th, 16th, 23rd November:
  • Fridays 10am           Exercise/Chat with Victoria     13th, 20th, 27th November:
  • Saturdays 11am       Melissa Stretch session/chat 14th, 21st, 28th November:

To attend these sessions you will need to email us at manager@cambriancentre.org  and we can then provide you with the Zoom link to attend the sessions. Tai Chi will cost £5 the other sessions are free for gym members.

There are a number of other Zoom sessions being delivered by our regular group leaders. These include Yoga, Choir, Drawing, Creative writing, Ukulele. More information can be found on the Cambrian Community Centre website. www.cambriancentre.org

“Buddy” walking system.

For those of you who live on your own, you may feel especially isolated through this current lockdown. With this in mind, we would like to set up a “buddy up” system to help everyone to keep in touch. Current guidelines state that you can meet up with one other person from outside your household socially distanced, for exercise in an outdoor space. If you are someone who would love to go for a walk but you would rather have some company than go on your own, please let us know via the manager@cambriancentre.org email and we will try to put you in touch with another like-minded Gym member.

Now for the boring bit: We are sure that you are already aware of the Government’s current guidelines on exercising and social distancing. If you are able to do so safely, please do go out to exercise once a day. Whether it is for a solitary walk (or with members of your household), walk the dog or a run you will need to maintain a 2 metre distance from others. If you are unable to do this because you are in an at risk group or are choosing to stay at home, it is important that you try to exercise as best you can at home every day. You may be wondering how you can do this and that is where we come in! All of the programmes that we have put together are possible to do at home with no Gym equipment but maybe a few props that you have lying around the house. We will also be giving guidance on how to tweak it to suit your specific medical needs. We will provide diagrams and written instructions to help you with your technique.

It is very important that you exercise safely to get the best out of it. If you follow very specific guidelines at the Gym, these will still apply at home and we will do our best to help to translate that into the programmes. There are instructions on the sheets; please ensure you follow these carefully especially the timings and if you feel unwell or experience any angina or other symptoms please do stop exercising immediately.

We are on hand to answer any questions. Although we cannot provide individual programmes for people, we hope that we are able to help as many people as possible. We also hope to provide a bit of light relief and humour to the situation in which we find ourselves. With this in mind, we actively encourage you to take pictures of yourself doing your exercises at home or to show us how inventive you are being to help to keep active. To get started, we will share some pictures of us doing exercises at home. Please do keep in touch and let us know whether we are providing a worthwhile service.

If you don’t already, please follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates and check in to the website to keep up to date with any news as we have it.

Keep in touch and we hope to see you again very soon. With all our Very Best Wishes

The Cambrian Centre Gym Team.
