Cambrian Community Centre helps you live longer, says national newspaper

In a round-up of places in Britain where people live longest, the Cambrian Community Centre is highlighted as providing ideal conditions for boosting your longevity.

“What is the secret to a long, happy, healthy life?” asks The Telegraph on 13 April, and includes Richmond among top 10 spots nationwide where locals routinely live well into their 80s, according to the Office of National Statistics.

Sociability initiatives, opportunities to get active, and places to take healthy detoxifying meals, are key, the national daily says, and singles out the Cambrian Community Centre as offering just these qualities.

“For some co-mingling, seek out the ‘Chatter and Natter’ table aimed at reducing loneliness – the Cambrian Community Centre hosts one every Wednesday (11.30am-1.30pm),” the paper recommends, and provides a link to the Centre’s website and details of our upcoming refurbishment project.

Social isolation is statistically linked to shorter life spans, the paper adds. Tight knit communities, low stress and a daily sense of purpose also help you live longer. Richmond’s average female life expectancy is 86.3 years, and 82.5 years for men.

The Health Bus returns to the Cambrian Community Centre on Wednesday 20th May.
From 10am health care professionals will be available to provide a range of support and information on quitting smoking, your health and wellbeing and the opportunity to have a health check (including checking your BP)

Confidential spaces are available so you can have a honest conversation about your worries or concerns.

Why not pop into the Centre and have lunch with The Real Junk Food Project who will be offering a hot 3 course meal on a pay as you feel basis as well as a surplus food hub. It’s a great opportunity to see what goes on at the Centre, enjoy lunch, meet new people and get some advice and information from health professionals.

Connect to Tech appointments are available at the Cambrian Community Centre. Would you like to be able to shop online, book activities at the Centre using our new online system LemonBooking or get to grips with a new phone/iPad or laptop?

Do you know an older people who is struggling with new tech or who wants to shop online? If they are not confident in their daily interactions with all things tech and online based, this support is vital and most importantly IN PERSON!

The Cambrian Community Centre in partnership with Age UK Richmond has monthly appointments with a wonderful volunteer to solve all of your tech issues. Appointments are available to book via David Lemon, Centre Manager on 020 8948 3351
